Mainspring opened on Thanon Phaya Thai with a straightforward purpose: to give Bangkok's watch owners a place where their mechanical pieces would be handled thoughtfully. The name comes from the part of a mechanical movement that stores and releases energy — a quiet component that drives everything else. It felt like the right name for a workshop where the work itself comes first.
The workshop handles three tiers of work: a practical service for everyday watches, a considered refresh for older pieces, and a thorough restoration for collector-grade timepieces. Each tier is designed to match what the watch actually needs rather than to fill a schedule or meet a revenue target.
We keep the team small by choice. A smaller workshop means every watch is handled by someone who is fully familiar with it from the first assessment through to the final check. That kind of continuity is difficult to maintain at scale, and we are not interested in scaling at the expense of it.

Honesty over upselling
If a watch needs a basic service, that is what we recommend. There is no reason to push a more expensive option when a simpler one will do the job.

Every job produces a written record of what was found and what was done. The owner leaves with something to keep alongside their watch.

For any work beyond the agreed scope, we check in first. Nothing happens to your watch without your knowledge and agreement.

Head Watchmaker
Over fourteen years working on mechanical movements, with a particular focus on vintage Swiss calibres. Handles all Vintage Refresh and Collector's Restoration work.
Nattapat Saengthong
Service Technician
Specialises in everyday service work and movement cleaning. Joined the workshop four years ago and manages the intake and assessment process for new arrivals.
Wanida Arunrat
Client Liaison
Handles enquiries, keeps owners informed during longer jobs, and manages the workshop's documentation archive. The main point of contact for most clients from drop-off to collection.
Workshop Standards
Photographic Intake Record
Each watch is photographed before work begins — overall condition, dial, case, and movement where accessible. These images form part of the job record.
Parts Sourcing Policy
Replacement parts are sourced from established suppliers where original parts are available. Substitutes are only used when originals cannot be sourced, and always with the owner's knowledge.
Timing Machine Testing
Every serviced movement is tested on a timing machine across multiple positions. Results are noted in the job record so the owner knows the state of the movement on collection.
Secure Storage
Watches in the workshop are kept in a locked storage area when not on the bench. Access is limited to workshop staff only. No watch is left unattended on an open bench overnight.
Written Job Summary
On completion, every owner receives a plain-language summary covering what was inspected, what was replaced, and the timing results. Collector's Restoration jobs include a full stage-by-stage record.
Collection by Owner Only
Watches are released only to the person who dropped them in, or to someone they have explicitly authorised in writing. A signed acknowledgement is required on collection.

Bangkok has a long-standing culture of horology appreciation, and mechanical watches occupy an interesting position in it — valued both as functional objects and as things worth passing down. At Mainspring, the work reflects that. Whether a watch is brought in because it is running slow, because it has not been serviced in fifteen years, or because it belonged to someone's father and deserves proper care, it receives the same attentive approach.
The workshop is located on Thanon Phaya Thai in Ratchathewi, a central Bangkok location accessible by BTS. Walk-in enquiries are welcome, and there is no obligation to leave a watch at the initial assessment — we are happy to look at a piece, give an honest overview of what it needs, and let the owner decide what to do from there.
Mechanical watch servicing is a slow process done properly. A movement has dozens of components, all of which interact. Cleaning, lubricating, and checking each one takes time — time that the work demands and that we do not rush. The result is a watch that runs as it should and documentation that stays with it.
